When The Boss and I moved into our current apartment, we moved with the understanding that we would not be getting cable television. We've had cable in the past, and found ourselves spending too much time watching TV instead of doing other things. With that decision made and firmly in place, we've managed to get by with decent reception through our old "rabbit ear" antenna. I've had no complaints until recently.
On my days off, after I've stumbled out of bed in the morning, I like to turn on the TV and watch the local news. Generally speaking, I'm up early enough to catch the last few minutes of news and maybe get the forecast, but then everything switches gears to The Early Show.
After a few months of watching lame commentaries, piss-poor interviews, and politically biased "news" reports, I've grown to despise The Early Show.
I know that a show like that has to run on a tight schedule, but it seems like the are trying to fit their content around their commercials, instead of the other way around. They try to fit too much into their shows, spending literally just a few minutes on a topic before switching to a different one. Instead of that, how about presenting less on each show, and spend more time on each segment? One might actually learn something from the show instead of having everything just glazed over. How can they expect people to retain any information when its only mentioned briefly before the subject is changed? I usually end up shutting the TV off in disgust and confusion.
It's not just The Early Show I can't stand.
I can't watch The Early Show without thinking that Maggie Rodriguez is the office slut.
Watching Regis and Kelly makes me want to stab pencils into my neck.
I feel like inducing vomiting with razor blades when I watch Good Morning America.
The Today Show puts me to sleep faster than Novocaine that the dentist's office.
Give me "Mythbusters" or "How It's Made" or "Dirty Jobs" any day of the week. Hell, I'd even watch The Food Network instead of those shows. And for a fat man, watching The Food Network is almost as bad as going on a diet... You see all this great food, but you can't eat any of it.
I know I'm not one to rant, but I'm doing so because other than watching these morning news shows, I have nothing else to watch on TV without getting cable. I'm thankful that I have good reception to watch the shows I do like (like CSI, The Office, Heroes, etc), but I wish there was entertaining television to watch in the mornings.
That's why I'm always browsing the Internet for free porn. Any suggestions?

Man, you've got to get cable! I know it's too expensive, but if you could steal cable from a neighbor or maybe make a splice buddy.
I couldn't live without Showtime. Dexter, The Tudors, Diary of a Call Girl, Weeds, Californication, I'm getting excited just writing about it! I saw an ad last night saying that the new season of Dexter starts Sept 28, and I squealed with delight.
And yes, morning shows must die! Try watching Kathie Lee and that Hota, Hoda, whatever woman. It makes me want to kill myself!
1. Netflix
2. http://www.drhorrible.com/ (which last week was free, but this week apparently costs $4.00, but for Neil Patrick Harris as Dr. Horrible? WORTH IT.
I don't have cable. Or actually, right now at this moment (prepare to die of shock) a computer at home.
I listen to a lot of NPR. And watch a lot of Netflix. Oh and I read. Books, pesky books.
I think I could live without cable but I sure don't want to!
When I first read this I thought you wanted porn recomendations! It cracked me.
Daytime TV is the same over here - chuck the remote at the screen and swear at them....insulting, patronising piffle!
My husband and I have been without any channels on our TV for the last four years. So the only chance we have to watch TV is at our parent's homes. I thought I would hate it but, when I watch TV now, I realize just how little I am missing. I usually just end up flipping channels for an hour, realize that all TV sucks, and then turn it off. And the shows I do want to see, like The Office, The Sopranos or Weeds, we just watch when they come out on DVD.
I will say that I do greatly miss Mythbuster and Dirty Job. But it seems I am managing just fine without them.
We ended up with directv (satellite) and love it... I was disgusted with Cable, and it has been a good option to go with DirecTV for us...
We did rabbit ears for a while, but since K became disabled, we decided we were spending alot more time at home and it was well worth the price to upgrade to DirecTV..
Where we are Comcast is "craptastic" - expensive as crap, local stations are fuzzy as crap, and their service department sucks like crap... so I was really determined not to give them any more of my hard earned money...
Hope you find a good solution... some shows have internet episodes for free, others are available for a little... but I wanted a bit more...

Most of the stuff I watch on a regular basis is on regular tv, but we watch enough cable to make it worthwhile. My nieces love all the kids channels and my husband is a diehard SciFi fan. The Food Network happens to be one of my faves. However, if the cable network came crashing to the ground and we didn't have it anymore, we'd have to make do with dvd's because we can't get very good regular tv reception here.
If you don't want to get cable, then try taping some of the stuff you like at night, and save it to watch in the mornings.
I really don't watch TV. No, really, I don't. In fact, my TV in the family room has been broken for awhile. It was sort of embarrassing when I had a babysitter and I forgot to mention it. She did say, though, that she hadn't read National Geographic in a long time and now she was all caught up!! (We have enough books and mags in this house to be under house arrest for at least 30 years). Anyway, isn't blogging "the new tv"?
Lola: All of the cable lines to my neighbors run under my front doorstep, so I guess I could splice into it... If I wanted to get evicted.
Miss Grace: I have Netflix... and for someone without cable, it is a godsend. I love the ability to watch things online via Netflix, too.
Meg: Hmm... Porn recommendations wouldn't be so bad. Any thoughts?
Scatterbrain: I think it's a problem world-wide. They are testing our patience.
Sus: I LOVE "The Office". I totally have a crush on Pam. I miss being able to watch Mythbusters and Dirty Jobs... Cash Cab was a favorite, too.
Goteeman: I've been able to get caught up on some shows online, but for now a bulk of the shows I enjoy I can get via rabbit ears.
Heather: Taping? As in, with a VCR? Do they even make blank tapes anymore? ;)
Enthalpymama: Blogging may not be "the new TV", but it definately helps.
Suggestion for morning television? Buy all three seasons of Arrested Development and watch them, instead. They never get old. They're always funny.
Or you could read...maybe go outside and find a nice spot and have some coffee and read. Do you have a porch? If I had time in the morning, I'd read on my porch. (actually, I'd probably just sleep in more).
AM TV does suck. I'm usually out the door fairly quick in the morning so it doesn't effect me, unless I'm sick in bed.
Yes, you can still buy VHS tapes to record on. If you don't have a VCR you can pick one pretty cheap. Tape shows at night to watch in the morning. After you watch them, tape over them with new shows.
Personally, I bit the bullet and got that ComCast package for $99.00. It includes cable, internet and phone. The price went up after the first year, but we called and said we were going to switch, so now we have HBO, Starz and Encore free for a year. Works for me.
AC: I really should start reading more. I've had "The Stand" by Stephen King for a few months now, and I'm only about 150 pages into it. I love it, but I don't have much time to read.
Employee No. 3699: I don't often watch morning TV, its only on my days off that I endure the suffering. I do own a VCR and blank tapes, but I guess ultimately, I'm too lazy to record them. I like to complain every now and then, too. =)
I have to struggle with myself not to watch TV. We have cable and I love watching food network and news. I hate the commercials though, especially on food network.
When I can overcome the temptation of watching TV, I really enjoy reading, talking to my husband, sometimes cooking, and of course sleeping.
I never watch TV before 1pm.

download free tv shows (entire seasons).
yes, even the old ones.
there are a few other sites that have slipped my mind at the moment, and i'm on my work computer so i can't get to them.
there used to be this amazing one called tvlinks.uk, but it got shut down.
it technically didn't do anything illegal, it linked streamed tv and movies from other countries (uk, japan, china, etc), but good old usa came to save the world from free media. again.
FIS: I've been getting into Guitar Hero, which is almost as bad as watching TV.
Haley: Thanks for the suggestions! Where do you blog?
i don't blog anymore, i used to LJ, but deleted it.
i'm just the creep that reads everyone elses.
by everyone elses i mean i'm addicted to the daddy files (thanks a lot capecodtimes.com) and saw the link to yours today.
i've been thinking of starting up another one, but i fear that it may either completely consume my time or i won't be able to devote enough time to it.
my boss is on vacation though, so this may be the day to start one.
how efficient.
Haley: Reading other blogs and not writing your own doesn't make you a creep. I was surprised to see a link to my blog over at Daddy Files, but he is a great and funny guy.
If you do decide to start blogging again, let me know where. Otherwise, I hope you come back again!
I know I'm getting to the posting comments of this way late, but I'm slowly working my way through the archives of your blog.
Personally, I don't watch TV. Not at all. It sounds funny, but I have simply viewed it as a gigantic waste of time since high school. Of course, this means that I now spend my time not watching TV doing other, equally pointless wasting of time, such as watching movies and playing video games. Perhaps I should take up a hobby, like making money?
