In Which I Get A Dog

Earlier this week, The Boss and I got a new addition to our home.

Her name is Stella.

She is a six-month-old daschund-miniature pincher mix, and as you can see, she is too cute for her own good. We adopted her from the local animal humane society.

There is an interesting story behind her name. We were originally going to name her Lola, but we didn't want to upset the real Lola into thinking that we named a dog after her. It wasn't until I saw a recent post by Lola that I remembered that she has a dog named Stella, too. I had totally forgotten!

She is very hyper, but is quickly adapting to living with us, and has slept in bed with us for the past two nights. We've had a few accidents in the house, but we're starting to learn the signs she displays when she needs to go outside. She has already totally destroyed two of her toys, so until she gets older she'll be put in her crate whenever we have to leave the house. We will be enrolling her into obedience school soon to try to train her out of some of the bad habits she developed while in the shelter.

I've been putting some work into my photography website lately. I've changed how the pictures are displayed a bit, and I've added watermarks to the larger versions of the pictures for some added security. If you wouldn't mind, please check out the site and let me know if you have any problems with pictures loading or with site navigation.

Congrats on your new addition! Stella is so small and adorable :)

I visited your photography website and only had an issue loading the photo titled 'Birch'. That may have been a product of my work computer's filtering system though.

Your pictures are wonderful, btw. I especially liked 'No Trespassing', 'Dragontree' and 'Grafton Notch Stairs'.

YAY!!! I'm so happy for you guys. She's adorable.

Oh, and I really love her name, too! Just watch out, those Stella's can be divas ;)

minivan soapbox said...

Yes - but did she have those accidents ON the bed while you were sleeping? Cause...Ew. But she's super cute!

Natalie said...

My sister's dog's name is Stella too!

Just an FYI they never grow out of destroying their toys. My dog still destroys his toys, but nothing else. I think he gets a sick joy out of ripping the squeaker and all the fluff out of his toys. If they have toys to destroy that makes them happy.

ADORABLE! Oh, that little face.

We used to give our boxer, Nixon, a Kong with peanut butter inside. She had a giant one but you can get little ones too. Indestructible and good for busy puppy teeth.

OK, I'm back. I like the photographs a lot - nature photographs are my favorite. And Maine is so beautiful.

Dude. You totally named her to be just like Lola. I know it.

congrat's on the new pup; there's nothing like a dog in one's life to make for happy, if not slobbery, communication. Good idea obedience school too. Best of luck!

First - congrats on the new dog. I recall taking a similar picture when I first got my dog many years ago. Ah...those were the days. :)

Second - checked out the site. Simple, easy to navigate, gorgeous photos...nicely done.

I checked out the site and I like it. It's very user friendly. Which is a plus for the interwebz challenged.

I also want to steal your dog now. The puppy dog eyes get me everytime.

Stella is precious. Dogs are the very best and she'll quickly get used to you (and vice versa).

Like your site - wish all the pictures that scrolled by displayed their titles as only some of them do.
You have a great eye!

Lola: And man, is she a diva.

Minivan Soapbox: No accidents in the bed yet, thankfully!

JennyMac: We'll be getting her a Kong sometime soon. Hopefully it will last.

My Bottle's Up: Glad I could help. =)

Kaylen: Super cute, indeed.

Aunt Becky: Yes. It's true.

NFTG: That is one expensive pooch.

Tammy Howard: I know!

Myster G: We've got lots of practice under our belts already.

Little Ms Blogger: She sure is!

Rebecca Knight: You are most welcome. =)

The Good Cook: Thanks!

Laura: Too adorable sometimes.

Jennifer: I'll start a waiting list in case she doesn't work out.

Kristina: It's ON.

Sams Mama: It's never too late for a Brando impression.

Rebecca: We've wanted a dog for the longest time.

Isabella: Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it!

Natalie: The eyes are dangerous.

Sandy: I love her ears, too. So expressive.

WOS: She sleeps at my feet... most of the time!

Inna: Awesome. Thanks for checking.

LucyCooper: There were many other dogs at the shelter I wish I could have taken home with her.

Heather: And there will be stories to tell, I'm sure.

Mrs B: I've had that reaction a lot recently. =)

Brutalism said...

May I have her? Pleeeaassse?

Jane Lively said...

Hide your shoes... she's mucho cuto, but remember, puppies have needs, too.

Avitable said...

Do you ever let her out in the yard and then put on a wifebeater and scream at the top of your lungs, arms slightly askew, "STELLLLAAAAA"?

Hit 40 said...

My cats also have some bad habits from being in a small cage at a shelter. Next time, I will wait until the fresh kitties are there in the spring. The fat one binge eats to get all the food before the other cat. And, the other cat is bulimic/anorexic.

Cute doggie! The boss did good.

daria said...

P.S. Our cat's name is Ella, and I will say it's fun yelling it across the room with an echoing -ella, -ella, -ella...

mumma boo said...

She is way too cute! Congrats! Just be careful if she gets "the heat" like Lola's Stella. ;)

I checked out the photography website and it looks great. The photos load easily and quickly. I'm having a REALLY hard time choosing the one I want for the anniversary gift. They're all amazing!

Rebecca Knight said...

I have an award for you over at my blog:

Thanks for truly being a badass AND a geek! Love your blog :D!

Employee No. 3699 said...

OMG, she is the cutest puppy!

I'm a firm believer in crate training. Some people think it's cruel to lock up a dog, but would you let a toddler roam around when you're not home?

And the name? You so have to yell "Stell-a!" when you call her. Just sayin'.

alntv said...

Look at da puppy...

Oooh cutie little puppy...

Okay. Got that out. Now I'll go check out your photography site...

Badass Geek said...

Brutalism: Sorry, she's taken.

Jane Lively: She hasn't gone for the shoes... yet.

Avitable: I haven't just yet, but it's on my to-do list.

Hit 40: An overeater and a bulimic. Sounds like the feline version of The Odd Couple.

Daria: Ha! Nice.

Mumma Boo: She's been fixed so we shouldn't have to worry too much about that. Although she has tried humping The Boss' elbow a few times.

Rebecca Knight: Thanks, dude!

Employee No 3699: Crate training is a good, good thing.

Alntv: Let me know what you think.

Kim said...

She is downright adorable and I am so incredibly jealous that my apartment complex does not allow dogs.

As for the site, I'm not sure that I like the font for it. I mean I like the font but the rest of the site seems more simplistic than it. I'm not entirely sure that's what I'm trying to say though.

She has such a sweet face. So sorry you have to send her back. :(
