Dear Child,
You are twenty weeks old now. It doesn't seem possible that five months have passed since your life began, but then again, there is much in this world that happens that doesn't seem likely. We know you are safe and growing like a weed inside your mother's stomach, and it won't be too long before we'll be able to meet you in person.
Your mother and I got some pretty exciting news the other day. We were at the doctor's office for an ultrasound (sorry for all the poking and prodding, by the way, but you were being very camera shy) and we found out that in addition to having two feet and two hands with the appropriate amount of digits, a strong heart, and a radiant set of ribs, that you, my first child, are a girl.

When you are old enough to have the gift of life inside you (in my opinion, mid-twenties would be a good age), you'll probably respond much as most people do when they are asked if you are hoping for a boy or a girl, just as your mother and I did. We said that it didn't matter, as long as the baby was healthy, and while knowing you are a girl is great and exciting, the previous statement holds true. We aren't going to love you any more or less either way. You are the child we want above anything else. Besides, who said that girls can't play with Legos or like Star Wars?
One thing is for sure. You are going to be one awesome kid. I can feel it.
So it's with sugar and spice after all. Love,
Dad

How wonderful! Our granddaughters (5 and 3) love dinosaurs, live spiders, worms and firetrucks. It's all in how you present it. Congrats!
Awww, congratulations! You will be such a good daddy! And yes, girls can love Legos and Star Wars too, I speak from experience! :D
Yay! I'm so happy for you and the Mrs. and your healthy baby.
Congratulations, Dad!
I agree with the others - your daughter can play with dinosaurs, Legos, Star Wars, or whatever she wants. My daughter will take her brothers' dinosaurs and play with them in her doll house. The dinos are constantly eating the occupants of that house....and then burping them over the roof.
My girl can't get enough Legos...Think about it though dude - Legos are expensive as hell.
Oh, yay! I love having girls! It means lots of baby dolls, pink AND cars & Legos; Mad Dance Parties, nail polish AND Hot Wheels races & bike wrecks; Barbie AND Boba Fett. It's a pretty good deal.
O my goodness -- CONGRATS! I got all teary-eyed in this post.
Well. That's just awesome. This was the first blog post I've read this morning. You put me in a good mood, so I think I'm good for the day now.
And yes: girls can (and often do) love Legos. And Star Wars. And superheroes. And monster stories. And karate. Trust me and my daughter on that one.
Congrats! Babygirl Badass will love lego and star wars and might even grow up and go to Comic-Con. It's all in how you teach her as she grows.
I'm so happy for you. You're going to be a great father.
... and algebra & calculus (shut up, Barbie! math is not that hard), and camping & hiking, and bugs & worms, and cars & trucks, and sci-fi & fantasy, and the list goes on...
I do, however, draw the line at Rush. If you can't dance to it, forget it.
More congratulations and good wishes being sent your way!
I think this little one is going to show all us a softer side of Badass;)
Congratulations Daddy, awesome news!
Congratulations! My daughter loves to dress up as a princess and play in the dirt. She also loves Legos, just like her Mommy. So there is nothing that says if you have a little girl, she has to be a prissy, pink, princess =)
Congrats!!!
Aww, Baby Girl Bossy Badass! Oh and yes, she WILL be the boss soon. Your wife will have to step down for a while lol.
I love Legos and I'm a girl.
Congrats! As others have already said, you'll be a great father.
Wow dude, a Badass Geekette! Kudos.
A girl? You are so screwed... Which finger of hers will you be wrapped around?
Congrats!! I used to build houses for my Barbies out of Legos. Girls rock :)
You are about to get years of blogging material....congrats! My first was a girl. Being the first you stand a better chance of her NOT driving you to commit murder when she is in her teens. That however, remains to be seen for me, she's 8. God help me!
Congrats to you and the Boss, Badass Daddy! Can't wait to hear what Badass BabyGirl has in store for you. :)
Oh my gosh, I have constant chills up and and down my arms. I am SO EXCITED for you guys! How wonderful. That is one very lucky little lady.
I'm so happy for you and your wife! And new daughter!
To All: Thank you, everyone! This is definitely a surreal experience, and I'm glad I have such a great group of people to share it with.
Congrats my friend! Sorry so late but I'm very happy for you! And by the way...little girls are amazing and next to impossible. You've been warned.
Mazel Tov! Yay! High five! Butt slap!
OK, i've clearly been watching too much college football, but the sentiment of congratulations is sincere. Enjoy this fabulous journey.
Congradufuckinglations! My son is eleven months. There is nothing that compares to the moment you see your child for the first time.
I was the girl who loved to play with dinosaurs and create lego houses for them to knock down. I am telling you girls are the best, although I am a bit biased on the matter. ;)
I know you will be an amazing father!
its funny you know! you are so excited to know that you are having a baby girl even before she is born. Here in India, laws and regulations prevent gender being made known to prospective parents due to the large numbers of female infanticide and abortion of female fetuses.
One day no parents shall have apprehensions about having a daughter...we can only live in that hope.
cheers.
